We are looking for a QA engineering manager with relevant experience to help us build the future of AI at Canva. This role will be responsible for the QA Engineers and overall QA function across these groups:

  • AI Platform
    • Empower Canva to prototype, improve and productionise industry-leading AI quickly, safely and at scale
  • AI Research
    • Research and develop trusted & powerful AI models to power world-leading features for creative productivity across Canva
  • Generative Experience
    • Empower the world to design by developing and applying AI that can create every type of design and ingredient on Canva.
  • Conversational Experience
    • Empower the world to design by giving every person and team access to their own creative collaborator.
  • Removebg
    • Standalone product


What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

You will:

  • Coach, mentor, and strengthen a team of 5 QA engineers while developing your coaching capability to scale the team and meet the needs of the Gen AI group
  • Work closely with the Product Manager and Tech Lead to understand the product roadmap
  • Plan QA Support for all group projects
  • Identify opportunities to improve quality in the group, and set goals and drive actions for the Gen AI QA team
  • Guide and inspire QA Engineers to increase their impact by setting growth goals around automation, performance, machine learning, and other skills
  • Work closely with other QA leads to set and drive QA goals across the QA Subspecialty
  • Perform structured performance reviews, conduct regular 1:1s, and participate in the hiring process of new QA engineers

What we're looking for

  • You have experience leading or mentoring QA engineers and guiding other team members with testing best practices
  • You have experience with Machine Learning Model testing or leading QA for AI projects
  • You have experience working with product teams and defining the QA process for your team. This may involve looking at the current development process for each team, identifying opportunities for injecting quality, and advocating for process changes to improve product quality
  • You can work collaboratively with team members and communicate effectively
  • You can break down goals into achievable milestones, define clear outcomes and measures of success, and hold team members accountable throughout the project
  • You have experience with defining QA metrics and driving actions to improve them
  • You have experience testing complex web and mobile apps (iOS and Android). You are meticulous in your work and passionate about testing. You consider every possible scenario during exploratory testing and can spot bugs that others might not notice.
  • You have FE and Mobile test automation experience and/or have automated trivial tasks using a scripting language like Bash or Python. You have a good understanding of what needs to be included in unit, integration, and end-to-end tests and can coach engineers on what needs to be automated.
